"Nothing like needing the force of a sumo wrestler just to move your mouse pointer an inch across the screen -- and having to pay .20 a minute for it to boot"
I'm sitting here testing out the laptop dialup connection because I had a bear of a time at the last hotel getting the dialup to function. Of course then I was in a casino hotel and they don't want you on the net, they want you plunking bills into their machines.
I discovered that by deleting that blasted "internet connection" function of ME seems to make connecting through dialup better.
If you are having trouble with this same thing then you can right click on "My Network Places" and click PROPERTIES and then find "internet connection sharing" in the list and just delete. Even though I primarily connect through network with the laptop, there are times that the dialup (in hotels) becomes a necessity.
Anyway, last time I never could get the thing to work, so I hit the local Kinkos to try out their machine and the mouse they had badly needed cleaning or replacement. You ever have that where you move it and the icon doesn't move? lol I asked the guy about cleaning it and he was like "uh, they will do that tomorrow, maybe, sorry."
Nothing like needing the force of a sumo wrestler just to move your mouse pointer an inch across the screen -- and having to pay .20 a minute for it to boot, lol.
And I'm not sure from his answer if he really even knew that mice could be cleaned. Or if they should ever be lol

"The default setting, btw, is "automatic" which seems to screw up sometimes"
Ever wondered when you post to a form and an error occurs and you need to go back and when you went back the browser has erased the form info you filled out?
Here is how to fix that in Internet Explorer:
Step 1. Navigate to TOOLS --> INTERNET OPTIONS
Step 2. Choose "Settings" under the section Temporary Internet Files
Step 3. Choose Check for newer versions "Every time you start Internet Explorer"
Now fill out a form and when you go back it will still be there. The default setting, btw, is "automatic" which seems to screw up sometimes.
2002-02-20 17:59:41Changing broken file associations in Win 95/98 from www.tdavids.com
"What if you decide not to use the program any longer, uninstall it, and now create a broken file association?"
Some programs will change your file associations for certain file types. What if you decide not to use the program any longer, uninstall it, and now create a broken file association?
The good news is you can change the file associations in win95/98 by doing the following:
1. launch windows explorer by holding down the microsoft windows button and pressing the E key.
2. highlight the file type you want to change the association for.
3. press and hold the SHIFT key and RIGHT CLICK with your mouse on the highlighted file.
4. choose OPEN WITH from the menu
5. choose the new program to associate with this file type from the drop down menu
6. check the box that says "always use this program for this file type"
7. press OK.
Note: you might need to reboot to see the icons for the old program disappear in Windows Explorer with the file type, but when you double click the application it will launch the file with the newly associated file type.
