2003-06-21 09:59:12 The Hulk Review from www.cozycampus.com
"Directory Ang Lee did some cool things with the photography, but I got the feeling he was trying to win some kind of artistic award rather than tell a fun story about a creature with an anger management problem." We were there last night and saw it. It didn't disappoint you in the least, really?
The opening drags on for what seems like an eternity. Too long before you get to the not-so-jolly green giant. Overall, the entire film probably could have stood 30 more minutes or so under the knife.
The Hulk doesn't look as fake as what the CGI teasers showed. Eric Bana plays a somewhat forgetable role as Banner and Nick Nolte overplays David Banner. I like the pets that Nolte keeps though, that was one of the better scenes with the Hulk, although don't ask me to explain why that scene happened LOL.
The movie sort of just, well, ended. I recall looking at my watch a few times, and that doesn't bode well for the pacing of a flick. Directory Ang Lee did some cool things with the photography, but I got the feeling he was trying to win some kind of artistic award rather than tell a fun story about a creature with an anger management problem.
Hulk is not Shakespeare.
Overall, IMO, Hulk is better than Daredevil, but not by much. It is no Spiderman or x2-killer. I'd recommend saving your money and waiting for the DVD unless you want to see how Hulk looks (which actually I don't think he looks as bad as people feared -- more like a Shrek-type character). I'm guessing this one will be packed with many, many goodies on DVD as I understand Lee cut out a bunch of stuff. Here's how I'd rank the Marvel movies:
Spiderman (best)
X2
X-Men
Hulk
Daredevil (worst)
