Some hosts count your mail into your "storage space" so if you have any dead mail not being yanked off pop boxes and they don't have good spam filters you can chew up some bandwith there.

I had one host dinging me on a really low bw/storage mainstream account ($5/month) for an extra $3-8 per month for "storage overage" for a few months before I realized it -- then when I brought this to their attention they claimed I had 10MB (no, that's not a misprint) of mail sitting on the server and since I hadn't deleted it off it made me go over the limit on the particular account.

I asked them to prove it. 10mb is a lot of mail LOL

Some hosts will add in FTP usage into bandwith, that's another billing tactic.

You really have to read the fine print and buyer beware if you go with someone you've never heard of or not been referred to by someone actually using the host.
