What are blogs? from www.leenoga.com

"One of the concerns of webmasters is that some blogs are clogging up the search results, reducing the listings of legitimate sites."

Blogs are short for "weblogs" In my blog here yesterday: http://www.tdavids.com/blogger/ I answered this question in depth, so check that for links to many articles about them.

A company by the name of Pyra Labs started the blogging phenomenon and in May of this year Google acquired them, infusing the company with $$$$ so they could improve the service and so that Google could start integrating into their products (as they are doing with the new Google Toolbar).

One of the concerns of webmasters is that some blogs are clogging up the search results, reducing the listings of legitimate sites. Some of the rumours that are being floated around include Google doing the following:

1) making a separate search like they do for images
2) reducing the value of blogs -- once identified -- so that other sites will raise above them in search results
3) adding a blog filter which is on by default which will filter out, or attempt to filter out blogs

It's easy to setup your own blog. In this step by step tutorial, I show you how (Script School Surfer Interaction Course July 16, 2002)

Exit links leading to auction pages? Good or bad idea? from www.adultnetsurprise.com

"We're still very new to this online auction stuff and it's got that fresh paint smell still"

Anybody tried linking their exit link on their adult site warning page to one of their generic eBay auction pages? I'm curious how that would work. Obviously if the surfer is a non credit card user it probably wouldn't work out at all.

But perhaps one could dynamically exit them based upon the site to certain auction items. eBay does allow you to list adult items -- though they have the section sort of roped off from the mainstream, of course. Anybody selling any adult items through eBay with success? I could see like collector's editions of old mags. Might even be a good lead-in/upsell opportunity from inside a paysite.

I'm just thinking aloud here (and probably someone is already doing this with some element of success), mostly because the wife and I have been in the eBay mode lately. We're still very new and quite inexperienced in the online auction world.

Oh well, I'll stop rambling about our eBay experience, but maybe someone out there can tell me if there is any segueway from adult to increasing your online revenue using eBay? I don't think I would try to do the reverse unless you were very, very careful (IE. send folks from eBay to the adult ventures) -- although eBay does allow auctioning of adult items. (Used sex toys? Ewww!)

I'm keeping detailed track of our experience so I can share the results as we experience them -- positive, negative or otherwise.

We're still very new to this online auction stuff and it's got that fresh paint smell still.

What's your experience?
